Resurrection Power

May 28, 2025

Today marks the celebration of Ascension Day. Ascension Day, also known as the Ascension of the Lord, commemorates Jesus's ascension into heaven, which occurs 40 days after Easter. After Jesus defeated death by rising to new life, He appeared to the disciples and others (1 Corinthians 15:3-8).

Jesus’ ascension marks the transition from Jesus's earthly ministry to His subsequent reign in heaven. Jesus’ ascension is also seen as a prerequisite for the descent of the Holy Spirit, which empowers the church and enables believers to live out their faith. The Nicene Creed states, “He [Jesus] ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand

of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end.” Jesus, seated at the right hand of the Father, identifies that He is reigning and is in a position of power. Furthermore, Ascension Day reminds us that Jesus will one day return in glory to judge the living and the dead.
