What we believe

Saving Grace Lutheran Church is a Christian congregation rooted in Holy Scripture and centered on the good news of Jesus Christ. We believe, teach, and confess the faith revealed in the Bible.
Below is a summary of what we believe, teach, and confess, rooted in Scripture and centered on Jesus Christ.

Holy Scripture

We believe the Bible is the inspired, inerrant Word of God.

The Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are God’s true and trustworthy Word. They are the final authority for all matters of faith and life and clearly proclaim God’s plan of salvation through Jesus Christ.

The Trinity

We believe in one true God, eternally existing in three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

God the Father

We believe in one true God, eternally existing in three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Jesus Christ

We believe Jesus Christ is true God and true man, conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.

Jesus lived a sinless life, suffered and died on the cross for the sins of the world, and rose bodily from the dead. Through His death and resurrection, He has won forgiveness, life, and salvation for all people.

The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit creates and maintains faith in us through Means of Grace (Word and Sacrament) that we may be called the children of God.

Sin and Salvation

Salvation is God’s work from beginning to end.

We believe that all people are born sinful and separated from God.

We are saved by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, as revealed in Scripture alone. Salvation is entirely God’s work and gift, not the result of human effort or accomplishment.

Good works are the fruit of faith and flow from a life renewed by the Holy Spirit, but they do not earn salvation.

The Means of Grace

God comes to us through the gifts He promises.

Word

We believe God’s Word dispenses His grace through the written Word (The Holy Scripture) and the Word proclaimed (when the Gospel is spoken by God’s people).

Baptism

We believe Baptism is a gracious act of God in which He works forgiveness of sins, rescues from death and the devil, and gives eternal salvation. Baptism is God’s gift, given according to His command and promise, and is for all people.

The Lord’s Supper

We believe Baptism is a gracious act of God in which He works forgiveness of sins, rescues from death and the devil, and gives eternal salvation. Baptism is God’s gift, given according to His command and promise, and is for all people.

The Church

We believe the Church is the assembly of believers where the Gospel is preached and His gifts of Baptism and the Lord’s Supper are celebrated.

The Church exists to proclaim God’s Word, forgive sins in Jesus’ name, nurture faith, and care for one another.

Life of Faith

We believe that faith is lived out in daily life.

Christians are called to love and serve their neighbors, confess Christ, and live according to God’s will. God works through our vocations, including family, work, community, and church, to care for others.

Learning Together

We gather around God’s Word to grow in faith.

We invite you to learn more through Discovering Saving Grace, a class that introduces our church and what we believe, with time for questions and conversation.
