The Book of Acts: Week 7 - Devotion 2

Intro: Paul is now heading to the final place recorded in Acts….Rome! Again we see a pattern which has been reoccurring throughout the entire book of Acts. Despite the circumstances, good or bad, there is trust in God and the Holy Spirit, and Paul continues this trend in Acts 27.

Text: Read Acts 27:13-44.

Information: While Paul is still on trial, he has slowly been going up the political chain for who is trying him. Eventually Paul wishes to appeal to Caesar in Rome. While being transported on a boat, a violent storm begins tossing the boat and the passengers everywhere. They try throwing cargo overboard, finding every way they can to gain control of the ship, but can not.

While everyone is filled with fear, believing that they will soon die, Paul stands with confidence. An angel has appeared to Paul saying that not a single life will be lost from this storm, only the ship will be destroyed. Paul’s faith doesn’t calm the storm, but his faith keeps him on a firm foundation while everything else around him is falling.

Eventually the ship runs into a reef while heading towards shore, but everyone is kept safe, just as God promised to Paul. Being a Christian does not mean we are immune from suffering or pain, but it does mean the God will walk with us through the fire and floods from now until eternity (Isaiah 43:2)

Questions:

- What “storm” are you facing and how is it challenging you to trust in God?

- What are ways you can find hope in God during seasons of challenge?

- When others need encouragement, how can you be a steady voice of encouragement?

Prayer: Heavenly Father, when the storms of life rage and we feel powerless, remind us that You are still in control. Strengthen our faith to trust Your promises, even when we cannot see the outcome. Help us to be steady and hopeful, pointing others to Your faithfulness. Carry us through every storm until we safely reach the shore You have prepared. Amen.
