Learn as You Go… Now GO!

“It is too small a thing for you to be my servant to restore the tribes of Jacob and bring back those of Israel I have kept. I will also make you a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring my salvation to the ends of the earth.” (Isaiah 49:6)

Well, Fall is approaching and it’s “Back to School” season again! I remember those days as a kid, wanting to hang onto that last week of Summer vacation. Summer seemed endless back then – now everything goes so quickly. Whatever your Summer experience, school starting back up is a good reminder to us as Christians that we must do our best to learn about the Lord as He reveals Himself to us in the Bible. And unlike the 13 grades of public school, the process of discipleship is a lifelong one – never to be mastered.

Did you catch that? You will never “perfect” your knowledge of the Lord. You will never become so wise that you will out-grow Bible study. (Please consult this newsletter and your Sunday bulletin for information about current Bible Studies and Life Circles.) However, there are some that approach their Christian life with a sense that they need to learn more before they can witness, or that they must attend more training before they can be used by the Lord. Don’t misunderstand me. Certainly God wants you to grow in your knowledge and understanding of Him and His Word. But I believe that He has already taught most of us more than we put into practice. And I believe that He has already prepared you to be a witness for Him. He’s given you what you need. Will you present yourself to the Lord and allow Him to use you for His purpose?

I’d like to see us at Saving Grace to do BOTH ‘learning’ AND ‘going’ well. Let us continue to learn for our own sakes. But for the sakes of those to whom God wants you to bring the message of salvation, don’t delay in going! You may even surprise yourself and learn much as you go – perhaps even by making mistakes. But don’t let the mistakes, or the fear of them stop, you from going. Now GO!
