Community Service

Our core value of "Community" motivates us to reach out and serve the community around us. Not only do we desire to make an impact on the lives of our own members, but we want to contribute to the lives of the people in our community and the world! We do this through a variety of ways.

We have regularly collected food and clothing to support some local organizations such as the Family Resource Center in Queen Creek, Lutheran Social Ministries and Kids! Bright and Healthy. In past years we have collected clothing and household items to support the Autumn House shelter for victims of domestic abuse as well as donated over 100 shoeboxes full of Christmas gifts and toiletries to needy families through the Family Resource Center. Our Quilters' For Missions group has donated dozens of handmade quilts to the needy of our community, and we regularly sponsor United Blood Services Blood Drives. We truly do believe we are to be the hands and feet of Christ, just as our Lord said in Matthew 20:28 " the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve..."

House of Refuge -- House of Refuge East (HRE), takes the broken human spirit and restores body, mind and soul. By educating and assisting the entire person they not only strengthen the individual, but the family as well.   Greater than 50% of their residents come from domestic violence shelters, and this will often be the first safe home some children will have experienced.  They provide a social service program with emphasis on targeting the root cause of each individual’s homeless situation. Through this program each resident receives services to help prepare them to make the transition to permanent housing and independent living.  Participants come to HRE with an honest desire for change in order to make the life changes necessary for success.

Lutheran Braille Workers -- Publishing Biblical, Christ-Centered literature in Braille and Large Print formats free of charge

We will be working on making a book of the Bible in Braille.

Hope Women’s Center -- Hope Women's Center reaches out to women in need who are facing difficult decisions.  The goal is to assist women emotionally, physically and spiritually. We are dedicated to the sanctity of human life, the belief in abstinence until marriage and biblical teaching for lifestyle and parenting.

Phoenix Rescue Mission -- The Phoenix Rescue Mission is a family of people who really care about those who are less fortunate -- and who also roll up their sleeves to see that the work of caring for these people actually happens.  There are many ways to help feed, clothe, provide shelter to the homeless, and assist young families as they strive to gain the skills and self-confidence needed to become independent.  We will be supplying the materials and preparing mission Sack meals to be distributed by their “Hope Coach.”

Servant Evangelism - This is a very different approach to evangelism.  Servant Evangelism (SE) wins the heart before it confronts the mind. A small act of kindness nudges a person closer to God, often in a profound way as it bypasses ones mental defenses.  Kindness builds the bridge for the person to receive a touch of love from God. It’s simple, practical, effective, inexpensive and fun!  Come and learn more about it, and take part in a servant evangelism event!

Lock In -- For the 7th -12th grade students.  After the Servant Evangelism event we will be spending the night at the Cloud Office.  We’ll have games, a movie, snacks & fun!

Breakfast Cookout -- The Saturday morning Men’s Life Circle begins with breakfast, and this week we are going to cook for them (and us J )!
